An allegedly drunk driver was arrested by Pennsylvania police Thursday with an intoxicated chihuahua named Maxwell in the car, local news station KDKA reports.

Thomas Bloedel, 44, was arrested after he was found inside his running car that was also in gear with a vodka bottle on his lap and two Vicodin, according to the report. The vodka was reportedly pouring onto the car’s center console, and his pup, Maxwell, was apparently licking it up.

The 3-year-old, 12-pound chihuahua was taken to a vet where he was put on an IV so that the alcohol could be removed from his body, according to the report.

“Last night when he was presented he was walking like a drunk person basically, his pupils were dilated. He was pretty confused about what’s going on,” said the University Veterinary Specialists’ chief veterinary medical officer, Dr. Dimitri Brown, according to the report.

Thankfully for Maxwell, things are looking up.

“He’s doing really well. Super happy, playing outside, getting treatments and lots of care today,” said Brianna Chilleo, a vet with University Veterinary Specialists, according to the report. “Felt bad for him, he looked really out of it worried and anxious and a little stressed out but knew we’d be able to help out and get him feeling better.”
