There are plenty of ways to toughen up a truck, but none can quite match the visual and practical effect of adding a second rear axle. That’s exactly what Hennessey has done with the VelociRaptor 6×6 Concept, transforming the already-scary F-150 Raptor into what could be the most badass truck ever to come from the United States of America.
Along with the extra wheels, the VelociRaptor 6×6 is equipped with an upgraded Baja-spec suspension built by Fox, new 20-inch wheels with off-road tires, locking rear axles, massive bumpers, and a fancy roll-bar equipped with LED lamps.
For those who think Ford’s stock 450-horsepower Raptor powertrain is a bit too lethargic, Hennessey will swap out the Raptor’s turbos for bigger turbos to bump the power output up past 600 horsepower with the $22,500 HPE600 package. (That’s just the price of speed, folks.) The HPE600 package also comes with a better-flowing exhaust, differently-tuned ECU, a new intercooler, and different wheels, tires, and brakes.
Not like the Hennessy 6×6 Raptor is cheap, anyway. Even without the 600-horsepower upgrade, one of these purpose-built trail-terrorizing machines costs $295,000. Still, that’s a good $200K cheaper than the current best-known six-wheel-drive off-road rig, the Mercedes-Benz G63 AMG 6×6.
Of course, the Hennessey’s monster and the G63 6×6 are not the only six-wheeled rigs in the world. Back in December, The Drive compiled a list of our favorite 6×6 vehicles. Had the VelociRaptor 6×6 been a thing back then, it definitely would’ve found a spot on that list—probably between the Kahn Land Rover Defender Flying Huntsman 6×6 and the Mansory Gronos G63 6×6. But to be sure, we would have to drive all of ’em at once. Y’know, to be properly scientific about the whole thing.
Off-road rats with money to burn can order their VelociRaptor 6x6s either directly from Hennessey or at selected Ford dealerships.
