It’s October, which means you better start thinking about holiday shopping. Even if it’s for yourself. During Prime Big Deal Days there are huge discounts on LEGO, radio controlled cars, robotics kits, model kits and all sorts of toys, hobbies, and collectibles for car fans. I’ll be honest; these deals are going to be my weakness.
I’ve traveled all over the world meeting car enthusiasts at shows and races. Four out of five of them will tell you they are LEGO fans also. The LEGO Technic Formula E Porsche 99X Electric is currently on sale for $34.99. I have one of these myself and it is a really well designed kit with an elegant solution for the pull-back mechanism. If you want something more traditional LEGO, how about the Lego Jurassic World Blue and Beta Velociraptor Capture for $23.99. It has a fairly accurate version of the red and white F150 from the movie.
My son is in his second year of competing in robotics. It’s been great for his mechanical and coding skills. ELEGOO has some kits on sale that can do the same thing for you and/or your kids. The Conqueror Robot Tank Kit with UNO R3 for Arduino is marked down 30 bucks and will teach both mechanical engineering concepts as well as electronics and coding. There are smaller kits as well, starting at just $50.
The deals are looking a bit slim this time on radio-controlled cars. The old standby is the AMORIL AK-917. It’s on sale for $160 but it’s the brushed motor version, so not the one most people are really after. The Bezgar HP161S is a pretty decent deal at $127.99 you can read my review of it right here. Luckily, Hot Wheels is still around I found a couple of cool sets, and Matchbox snuck in there too. At the bottom, there’s even a Power Wheels Jeep, not sure if it’s eligible for an EV tax credit.
