My first tool carrier was a plastic fishing tackle box that articulated into multiple neatly organized levels. It was more like a tool apartment building with plastic walls keeping everything neatly in their places. This is back when I was a kid and first getting into radio-controlled cars. Just about all the tools were small, probably the biggest thing I needed was a set of normal-sized pliers. As I progressed, so did my tool storage needs. I eventually got to the point where I needed a rolling tool cab. Still, I like having things neatly organized. I know you’re in the same boat, which is why toolbox deals are on the menu today.
I’ve found some great sales at Lowe’s, Home Depot, Ace Hardware, and Amazon on tool boxes and cabinets. I’ve also included a couple of items at the bottom that are more portable and to help you get more organized. My own toolbox is from Craftsman, I’ve had it for decades. It was made in America like this Craftsman V-Series 8-Drawer Steel Tool Chest for $849.00. I suspect it will outlive me.
When I worked in a shop, we had carts like this Husky Tool Storage Standard Duty Utility Cart with Lift-Top for $186.15 that had sets of tools for specific jobs and it was nice because the top was also used as a work surface. While I do have a few smaller toolboxes for on-the-go, I’ve found things like this Carhartt 18 Pocket Roll Bag for $22.07 are probably the most versatile. Lastly, if you really like things orderly, nothing keeps everything in its place like foam liners. Get these foam sheets, and cut them to the shape you need.
