A golden rule for gearheads is if you’re unsure if a tool is worth having, you buy the cheap one. Then, if you really like what that design has to offer, you invest in the better version of it. The best part is that every so often, you’ll find a really cheap piece of equipment that’s surprisingly good quality. That’s exactly what happened to me when I got a head start on my New Year’s resolution of being far more organized in my shop. I snatched a discounted thread checker that turned out to be way better than I had expected. I’ve also rounded up some more deals on hardware organizers to help more folks straighten up.
Stochastic Box Nut and Bolt Thread Checker-28 Threads for $23.98
After deciding it’s finally time to jump in and tackle the countless coffee cans of spare bolts I have lying around, I bought the Stochastic Box Nut and Bolt Thread Checker for $23.98. To be honest, I didn’t really read the description because it was one of the cheapest ones I could find, and I impulsively bought it. It turns out that this thing is so much nicer than I’d thought it could be. It’s built with stainless steel, has a nice rust-resistant anodized finish, and has all of the threads clearly labeled. It’s an absolute steal for the current sale price. This particular version allows you to check a total of 28 male and female threads, but you can bump up to a 34-thread version for $43.21 if you want a little more coverage.
vretti Label Maker for $12.99
My NewAge Products garage storage system does have hardware organization bins that come with labels you can write on to keep track of things. I opted to use a label maker instead, though, because my handwriting is absolute trash. While it’s not on sale, the vretti Label Maker I bought lists for only $12.99. This is a shining example of that golden rule I’m talking about. I could have bought a really nice one for way more, but this is a new system to me. So, I grabbed the cheapest one I could find. Admittedly, It’s not the greatest label maker in the world, but it does exactly what I need it to. I’m pretty stoked on it.
