Choice is great. While the whole idea of everyday carry is to have gear you need every day. If you’re like me, no two days are the same. But, buying more EDC gear is almost always a discretionary purchase for me. So, being able to save some money and find more affordable tools is always a plus. In spirit of that, I’ve built a stack of EDC deals under $50 to indulge in.
I started with the Gerber Armbar Slim for just $27.84 from Amazon. These are normally about $40. But the price is all over the place online depending on the tool’s color and apparently the moon’s phase. For under $30.00, this is a good deal on a tool with the tip of the bit coincident with the centerline of the handle. Speaking of Gerber there’s this Prybrid X Utility Knife, which uses a replaceable X-Acto blade for just $20.88. I love X-Acto knives. I’ve been using and abusing them since I was a kid—some of my first real scars came from them. And yes, I included a Kershaw folding knife also, because I do have mixed feelings about disposable blades.
There’s a Titanium Carabiner below that’s $8.99 and even under ten bucks, I’m not thoroughly convinced it’s a “good deal,” but I still think it’s awesome, and I want it. It’s probably the least useful thing on the list. For usefulness, I hit that with the StatGear Tactical Glass Breaker Pen. I do make fun of “tactical” stuff at times, but I know two people who have used glass breakers in emergencies. One had to get himself out of a car and the other had to extricate someone else by first breaking the glass and then cutting the seatbelt. This doesn’t have a belt cutter, but it will get you through the window.
On a happier note, Fall weather is here. So, there’s a waterproof Columbia jacket that packs up into a pouch and can be thrown in your EDC bag. Enjoy your apple picking in the rain or whatever it is you do to enjoy the change in weather.
