After a tough time in 2016, Hyundai is looking for a sales comeback this year. Their focus has shifted towards volume, but even with that being said, it looks like the next generation Accent gains a few upscale cues for 2018. The little brother to the Elantra and Sonata models was teased by Hyundai recently before the car’s official debut in Toronto on February 16, and the bits they released show a different Accent than we’re used to.
The car’s design looks to be a step up from past models. The Accent’s design language does carry on from the last generation, but with several obvious touch ups. An LED headlamp signature pairs with the refreshed front fascia which includes a new grill and bumper combo to give us a good first impression. With body lines remaining similar, the Accent’s shape carries onto the rear where we see complementary LED tail lights as well. This completes the package nicely as it keeps things subtle while still having dynamic attributes.
Specifics are scarce, but we have a few expectations for the 2018 model. As Hyundai swoops through their lineup with revisions to powertrain and trim combos, the Accent will surely receive some of the same treatment. While the 1.6L I4 will likely carry over into the next model year, it’s also possible that we will see a 1.4T engine introduced as well. This is the same engine that powers the Elantra Eco, so we know that Hyundai already has it in its parts bin.
Interior refinement will surely follow suit. Don’t count on any staggering luxury, but do plan on an improvement from obvious budget-focused materials of the past. The Accent will feature Hyundai’s newest version of the Bluelink system, giving you a host of convenient features to make things easier on you.
