Alfa Romeo’s comeback to the US has just begun. The Giulia landed only a month ago, bringing an Italian competitor to the BMW 3-Series. So far, it’s been praised for its surprising quality and stellar looks, and it seems like the Stelvio will continue on that trend. It rides on the same Giorgio platform as the Giulia, and the gorgeous SUV has finally been released for order in Europe. The Stelvio’s US release should follow shortly after, and it looks like we’re in for a treat.
The First Edition trim brings with it more style than substance. As opposed to its pumped up Quadrifoglio brother, the First Edition features a tame 2.0L turbocharged I4 that produces 280 HP and 306 lb. ft. of torque. The same exterior design is present, albeit without the enhanced sport cues. The Stelvio’s interior reminds us of Alfa’s new wave, displaying exceptional taste and quality.
It’s clear that this Stelvio variant sits above the bottom of the range. Bold 20″ alloy wheels heighten the Italian design, giving it a flashed when paired with the bi-xenon headlights. A myriad of color matched parts make their way into the First Edition including the brakes and door handles. When peaking through the window, you can tell that its a similar story on the inside.
The interior is adorned with sleek and modern touches. Real wood accents are splashed throughout, giving the cabin an elegant touch without becoming overbearing. A contemporary 7-inch digital instrument cluster keeps things tidy and complements the 8.8-inch infotainment display nicely. The Stelvio First Edition also gets the standard features for its class including heated leather seats and navigation.
All in all, this is a vehicle that offers unique flair to its German and American competitors. It makes a strong case for being the best looking SUV, and for the first time in a while, an Alfa may be a sensible choice when compared to the BMWs and Mercedes of the world. The First Edition melds together luxury and logic, punching in the middle of the Stelvio range.
