In an effort to bring overlanding to the masses and convince the younger generation truck campers can actually be cool if packaged correctly, Hellwig Products and Lance Camper hooked up to create the “Rule Breaker” Nissan Titan XD. The two companies also enlisted the help of Icon Vehicle Dynamics, MagnaFlow, Tork Lift, Falken Tires, Fab Fours, Warn Winches, and Baja Designs, and Hypertech, WeatherTech, N-Fab and Bolt Locks on this extraordinary build. The recently-revamped Nissan Titan XD was a deserving candidate for the project due to its new Cummins 5.0-liter turbo-diesel engine and heavy duty frame.

With the recent overlanding surge in the off-road community, it’s quite interesting to observe which methods gain traction and which simply aren’t practical or affordable. From roof top tents on 4Runners to full-blown Earthroamers and everything in between, expedition-minded people are clamoring for the best ways to get out and experience the terrain in their vehicles. In regards to the resurgence of bed-supported campers, I’d be a little surprised if these awkward accessories make a legit comeback. However, with builds like this one from Hellwig, it starts to make sense.  They would still have to be somewhat affordable and although this is an over-the-top SEMA build, the $118,781 price tag on this project (including the truck) is out of reach to say the least. If it truly takes that kind of coin to get in the overlanding game, my bet is people will lean towards smaller, off-road trailers or keep popping their RTTs.
