Today on Drive Wire, The Drive is excited about two brand-new versions of McLaren’s fastest and slowest models, respectively. The first car, to be revealed in the flesh this week at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, is the 570S Sprint, a track-only version of McLaren’s entry-level sports car. Like the standard 570S, the Sprint enjoys power from a 562-horsepower, 3.8-liter V8, and also shares that car’s carbon-fiber tub chassis, but it improves performance with center-locking magnesium wheels, racing slicks, and large carbon-fiber wings and front splitters. Seats have six-point racing harnesses and sit within a roll cage. Deliveries will begin next year at a price of £148,000 (about $217,000) and the car, in a charming move, comes standard in McLaren Orange.
Much further up the totem pole, McLaren has released the P1 LM, essentially a road-going version of the brand’s hard(est)core, track-only P1 GTR. Via some typical McLaren magic, that literal race car has been barely tamed in its journey to the street. The LM will be 130 pounds lighter than the standard P1, and boasts lightweight goods like carbon-fiber seats, plastic windows, and titanium bolts. It still has 1,000 horsepower from a mix of gasoline and electric motors, and unlike the GTR, air conditioning is standard. Buyers of one of the five (likely no longer available) cars will receive complimentary car covers, a tool kit, and a 1:8 scale model of the car. But really, isn’t the car itself the only important perk?
