Although TVR withered and died in 2006, its cult of quirky British sports car lovers lives on, and now the company is officially back. When it was acquired in 2013, TVR started work on a lightweight, rear-wheel drive, grand touring coupe—the first of a full lineup of TVR-branded vehicles. TVR keeps teasing its fans with new information about the 480-horsepower two-seater, most recently with an announcement that it will come exclusively with a manual transmission. The presumed final announcement for the unnamed TVR comes as a teaser image given to Autocar magazine, right before its official unveiling at Goodwood Revival this weekend.
These teaser images show off the vehicle’s homage to the classic shape of TVR’s old grand tourers, but forgoing some of the crazy styling TVRs are known for. The new car opts for a more subtle and refined look, most resembling a T350.
According to Autocar, the new TVR sports car will go on sale in early 2019, with 500 unique “launch editions” initially available and a planned 1,000 cars produced per year. The company plans to expand on the coupe’s expected success, with a convertible and more powerful model also on the way. Powered by a 5.0-liter, Cosworth-tuned V8 from a Mustang, the car will feature similar performance to a McLaren 570S, according to Autocar.
Unfortunately for us Westerners, TVR is only planning to sell to European markets, with no word of a U.S. release. For those wanting more, you’ll have to look forward to Goodwood, where a fully-working model will be revealed…flanked, of course, by multiple classic TVRs.
We can’t include the new picture here—after all, TVR gave it to Autocar, not us—but click this link right here to see the fresh shot for yourself.
