Aaron Kaufman’s Pikes Peak Ford Falcon is Up For Auction
The wicked Trans-Am racer turned hillclimb car hits the block.
Aaron Kaufman served as the enthusiasts ethos for the mega-hit Fast 'N' Loud. During his time with the show, he found a way to put in bits of soul in every high-dollar build that Richard Rawlings threw at him, making the most out of the deadline-driven series. The car here, however, was a passion project developed by Kaufman himself to race at the 100th running of Pikes Peak International Hillclimb. This Ford Falcon has a full build-sheet that's nothing short of impressive, and now it can be yours.
The 500 horsepower '63 is up for auction on both Bring a Trailer and eBay, showing off all of its strengths as a road legal race car. It's powered by a naturally aspirated 363 ci. V8 with a Super T-10 4-speed transmission that "prefers 100 octane" but will run on 93 octane if need be. A sizable 750 cfm Holley HP Series carb feeds the engine while a stainless steel exhaust system helps it breath -- and it sounds perfect. Power is then translated to the Mark Williams trussed 9″ rear with 31-spline axles. Two center sections are provided–the nodular unit has 4.00 gears and a Detroit locker while the aluminum center boasts 3.00 gears with TruTrac, according to the ad.
Although the engine may be the centerpiece, this car shines in its details. Dynamics haven't been ignored as it was built to corner and tackle one of the most challenging races in the States, so you can be sure that it handles the twisties just fine. It uses triple adjustable coilovers all the way around with 6 piston brake calipers in the front and 4 piston units in the rear, promising top-tier handling in addition to the high-horsepower motor. The Falcon runs a set of staggered Forgeline wheels which are wrapped in Nitto NT01 competition tires measuring 245/40/18 and 275/40/18.
Aside from its functionality, the car is drop-dead beautiful. Soft lines run from the front to rear with a brilliantly period-correct style that rivals most other cars that climb the famous hill, making it as handsome as it is useful. The barren interior is equally as pretty with the same white coat that covers the exterior. Modern pieces like the digital dash cluster tie things together, giving it an even mix of contemporary and classic design.
The car is fully certified to run at PPHIC and on the road, so that promises exceptional versatility. The car is livable with five-point harnesses, racing seats, quick-release steering wheel, and a collapsible column according to Kaufman. Though it may not make for the most practical daily driver, it would certainly be the most badass.
It's advertised in "as-is raced" condition with noticeable wear and tear. "It has rock chips and cracks and little dents here and there. This car was never a driver car it has always been a race car since its most recent build. The wear on the car is honest and reflects the use of the machine. This car has raced the Big Bend Open Road Race once and raced at ppihc three times now. it has been used at various other exhibition events as well.
