Adam Ismail

News Editor

Adam Ismail is The Drive’s news editor, coordinating the site’s slate of daily news stories as well as reporting his own and contributing the occasional car or racing game review. He lives in the suburbs outside Philadelphia, where there’s ample road for his GR Corolla to stretch its legs, and ample space in his condo for his dusty retro game consoles.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • From newspaper page designing to writing, editing, and podcasting, Adam’s dabbled in one aspect of journalism or another since he started at Rutgers’ student newspaper, The Daily Targum.

  • His expertise lies in the intersection of cars and consumer technology, and his ideal ride is an all-wheel-drive turbocharged hatchback they probably don’t make anymore.

  • He lost to Juan Pablo Montoya in Gran Turismo Sport—in the same room.

EXPERIENCE

Adam got his start in automotive journalism as a writer at Jalopnik in 2020. Before that, he reviewed mobile phones and gaming hardware as an editor for Tom’s Guide, contributed to Digital Trends and GTPlanet, and handled daily layouts for The Star-Ledger’s sports section. His passion for cars, like music and technology, came through video games; if it weren’t for the likes of Daytona USA, Sega Rally, Need for Speed and, of course, Gran Turismo, he’d probably be doing something else with his life right now. He joined The Drive in 2023, aiming to foster the site’s industry-leading day-to-day journalism with a dedication to accuracy and accessibility.

EDUCATION

Adam graduated from Rutgers University’s New Brunswick campus in 2015 with a bachelor’s degree in Journalism and Media Studies.
